Company background

Where Carrier started

Willis Haviland Carrier designed the first modern electrical air-conditioning system in 1902, creating a way to control both temperature and humidity for an industrial printing plant.

In 1915, Willis Carrier and six colleagues founded Carrier Engineering Corporation. The business grew from industrial climate control into a global residential and commercial heating, cooling, refrigeration, and building-systems company.

Warranty overview

Carrier warranty basics

Carrier’s current Consumer Choice Warranty lets eligible replacement-residential customers who register within 90 days choose either a 10-year parts-only limited warranty or a 5-year parts plus 3-year labor limited warranty. The labor option requires participation by the installing dealer, and the program does not apply to new residential construction.

  • Register eligible equipment and select the preferred option within 90 days of installation.
  • Without timely registration, the standard term is generally five years of parts-only coverage, except where local law prohibits registration-based warranty conditions.
  • The 5-year parts plus 3-year labor choice is available only through a participating Consumer Choice dealer.
  • Confirm original-owner rules, eligible models, application type, grouped registrations, exclusions, and all terms in the current warranty certificate.
